CN-235 Amphibious
Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) - Search and Rescue (SAR)
Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) - Search and Rescue (SAR)
The CN235 or HC144 Ocean Sentry amphibious conversion has the unique characteristics of a twin-engine turboprop transport aircraft with the ability to operate from both land and water.
Designed as a versatile multi-mission platform, the aircraft is envisioned for maritime patrol, search and rescue, troop transport, medical evacuation, disaster response, and tactical cargo operations for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). Its amphibious configuration allows it to reach locations where conventional aircraft cannot operate, while its tactical rear cargo ramp provides rapid loading and unloading of equipment, boats, and relief supplies directly from the water.
What makes the platform particularly distinctive is the combination of a pressurized cabin, turboprop performance, amphibious capability, and a tactical rear cargo ramp. In this configuration, the aircraft is intended to provide the flexibility of a tactical airlifter while retaining the ability to land directly on the water.
In simple terms, it could be described as unique in its class: a high-speed, pressurized turboprop amphibious aircraft combining land and water operations with tactical cargo access in a single platform.
The amphibious conversion further enhances the platform's capabilities by incorporating landing gear and floats that enable operations on water as well as conventional runways. This configuration would expand the aircraft's operational flexibility and enhance the U.S. Coast Guard's ability to respond to maritime emergencies, search-and-rescue missions, disaster-relief operations, and other demanding missions in locations where conventional aircraft may be unable to operate.
In addition to the marine floats, an innovative Slide Boat system has been developed for the CN-235 Amphibious concept in collaboration with a company specializing in marine engineering and solutions.
The system enables the loading, unloading, and deployment of boats, such as rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIBs/Zodiacs) used for assault or rescue missions, directly to and from the aircraft through its rear tactical ramp.
This integration transforms the aircraft into a globally pioneering platform, capable of transporting its own maritime assets in flight and deploying them directly into the operational environment.
It provides a unique operational capability by combining amphibious operations, tactical airlift, and the immediate deployment of maritime craft within a single airborne platform.
